Bernie's Report - December 27, 2006

It's Holiday Season now!

Despite the fact that this is likely to one of the busiest days of the ski season at FAR, the fresh snow enticed me to the hill. I reached the chair at 8:50 and to my surprise, there were only a dozen or so ahead of me. The hills web site was advertising 9 cms of fresh. There was at least that much and the off-piste conditions were much improved, compared to yesterday afternoon.

The air temperature was only a degree or so below freezing but the snow was not too heavy. There was enough fresh stuff to conceal the bumps that have started to form but it seemed to have just the right density to provide some cushion. If you were lucky enough to pick a less skied line (where bumps had not yet accumulated) the skiing was excellent.

I only skied until 11 am. Even then, there were only a few people in lift lines... but other duties called.

The holiday skiers should be happy with these conditions certainly some of the best Christmas/New Years conditions I have seen for a while.
