Bernie's Report - March 04, 2004Early Start, Great Day!There arent many days when I am in the lift line before the chair starts running. But after you have been here a while you get the sense that, this could be a good one! The ski hill was reporting 26 cm. in past 24 hours. It was all of that and more especially at higher elevations. The temperature at the base area was only a few degrees below freezing so the snow was not of the champagne variety, but it was certainly light and fluffy, although one had to deal with the firm bumps below the fresh snow. I had a Queen tune fixed in my head this morning and for some unknown reason, it helped me rock and roll through the uneven terrain with a big smile on my face. After a couple of solo runs I bumped into some friends and we headed out into Cedar Bowl. The Haul Back T-bar was out of service today, due to mechanical problems. This turned out to be a huge asset for those who knew route out of Cedar Bowl that bypasses the Haul Back T-bar. ;-) This afternoon I hooked up with the regular Mens Day group. We were joined by a great group of guys from upstate New York whom I had met a few days before. By afternoon the temperature had risen above freezing at the base area. Although the firm snow-pack was quite evident in places, the snow remained quite soft over most of the mountain. All in all... great skiing! At 7:30 pm. it is -2C and partly cloudy.
